Biography

Amanpreet Behl is a Molecular Toxicologist and Molecular Geneticist at United Arab Emirates University. Her research focuses on understanding the effects of environmental contaminants on biological systems using molecular and genetic approaches. Her work integrates environmental toxicology, molecular genetics, food safety, and public health risk assessment to investigate the impact of toxic substances, including heavy metals, on aquatic organisms and human health.

Her doctoral research investigates how marine fish populations are connected across different geographic regions and how environmental and evolutionary processes influence genetic variation. To address these questions, she conducts extensive field sampling across the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Oman, collecting tissue samples from reef-associated fish species throughout the region.

Using double-digest Restriction-site Associated DNA Sequencing (ddRAD-seq) and advanced population genomic analyses, her work examines patterns of gene flow, population differentiation, genetic diversity, and adaptive variation among fish populations. These findings provide important insights for fisheries management, marine biodiversity conservation, and the sustainable management of marine resources in one of the world's most environmentally challenging marine ecosystems.

In addition to her population genetics research, Amanpreet investigates heavy metal contamination in commercially important fish species from the Arabian Gulf to assess environmental health and potential risks to seafood consumers. By integrating molecular genetics and environmental toxicology, her research contributes to a broader understanding of ecosystem health and environmental sustainability.
