Biography

I am a PhD candidate within the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences at Texas A&M University. My area of expertise is in urban soil physics and hydrology. My dissertation features research using electromagnetic induction (EMI) sensors for precision turfgrass management; developing a novel fill mix using native clay soil and technogenic materials as a replacement for sand in rain garden design; watershed modeling using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) to understand the potential impacts of rain gardens on urban hydrology; and creating a more comprehensive watershed assessment by combining social, ecological, and technological (SET) factors related to watershed vulnerability (i.e., the ability to recover after an event such as flooding). I am highly interested in better understanding the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum in urban environments and how it influences and is influenced by human interaction, as well as strengthening university and community relations to improve science literacy and trust in science/public institutions. My overall research goal is to enhance urban hydrology in order to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of residents and to inform effective policy and urban planning strategies. I am highly motivated to increase the infiltration of water where it falls!
